He whacked bulls for Russell, Majors and Waddell, bossed wagon trains and stage lines; supplied beef to Indian agencies and the Union Pacific railroad crews; panned for gold at Alder Gulch, MT; chased renegades, smuggled horses from Canada; served as mayor of Corinne, Utah; and ran one of the largest freighting operations in the Northwest.
